Talking at Ignite Seattle

Tonight I’m giving a quick talk on how to increase your odds of eating well no matter where you are – especially useful if you’re out-of-town and don’t know where to eat (and the web isn’t handy). It’s only a five minute talk at Ignite Seattle which is an event for folks involved in the Seattle startup and tech culture (so not really food focused unless you consider Jolt and Doritos food). But should be fun. There will be plenty of other talks to check out as well. I’ll post a written version of the presentation here after tonight.

aww, cmon. Jolt and Doritos? Maybe 10 years ago :) We’re all about the foie and lafite these days!

You know… it’s so funny… As I wrote that I thought… gee that’s a dated reference. But I couldn’t think of anything as obviously iconic that has replaced it. Starbucks? I’m open to suggestions. :)

  4. I always thought it was interesting how closely the growth curve between Microsoft and Starbucks tracked until about 2001… I always doubted that was mere coincidence.

Your talk tonight was fun (I was a few feet behind you when you went back to your chair, but was too hungry to stop and chat, so I ran off to go home and cook something… dinner at 11 is usually hard to pull off, but it wasn’t too bad). Lee’s talk was a fairly good transition point to something with a food theme. And now I want to play with the OpenID stuff for a pet project I started building a couple of weeks ago.

Actually, it was quite entertaining to watch everyone deal with the 5-minute format and the aggressively timed slide transitions.

I like the sort of Spanish-style restaurant crawl/graze that you were proposing. But I suspect that’s really best on a Tuesday or Wednesday night; how can you expect to get a seat with a group of even modest size at several restaurants on a Friday or Saturday night?

Red Bull or Rockstar is today’s Jolt, although I don’t know what has replaced Doritos!

I actually missed your talk, as I bumped into a SysAdmin I used to work with, who is now running cheese production down at Beecher’s at the market (At least we were talking food! We were both bummed though, as we had been sticking around to watch you..)

  6. [...] I still can’t decide which my single favorite talk was, but if someone threatened me with a laptop-less life, I’d chose Avi Geiger’s talk, which was just completely unique and unexpected. In my last post, I forgot to mention Beth Freeman’s talk about the Head First books and Hillel’s talk on food. [...]
