As serial-chocolate taster, I found Vosges Haut Chocolat to be long on brilliant marketing (stunning catalog, beautiful descriptions, etc.) but short on exceptional flavor.

You must try Theo's in your own back yard (the old Pyramid brewing building in Fremont). The coconut curry bar is nothing short of amazing. Also, you must try XOX Truffles in San Francisco. I have tried everybody's chocolate and nothing compares.

Some of the spice combinations have a little too much of the actual spice in them (leading to graininess) instead of infusions ... that aside, I love the flavor combos that Vosges has. I like how I can taste the curry or the cardamom, but I still taste chocolate, instead of ending up with a chocolate texture and a different flavor entirely.
