Jane- My other sister traps mice and voles in the black forest for her studies, so I certianly don't want what she is selling!!!

Michael- I too have asked if apricot pits were like nuts to those who are alergic. If you find the answer please let me know! It's something I need to know for my own diners who I try to protect.

Ken- I am glad you have joined the tasting menu readership all the way over in England. I spent two glorious months outside London and forever hold the country close to my heart. I didn't realize you could purchase the apricot kernal paste.

Sara- I have become slightly addicted to greek yogurt!

RC- I'll make sure none of those apricot pits end up in my kitties dessert bowl! She does have a tendancy to help herself to food, so I had better make sure there is nothing with apricot pits in paws range!

Thanks for the apricot recipe and the all-purpose crumble topping! I see I'm not the only person who likes Greek yoghurt on top of a cobbler or crumble. The cool tanginess is the perfect compliment to the hot and syrupy sweet filling. I'm enjoying my peach crumble with yoghurt right now!

Hi!.
My friend David Cowles of Gig Harbor. WA. sends me your emails, which I find fascinating. I am a retired Chef de Cuisine. Living in England, I recently visited my friend David, who is known as the Fastest Chef in the West and writes a food column for the local news paper, in his area. The Gateway.
Now here is something you didn't know, at least I think so and that is, that, stone fruit Kernels contain Cyanide, but this cyanide can prevent or cure cancer, according to one Phillip Day, Credence Press, the writer of several books on various health topics. This content of stone fruit kernels is known as Vitamin B17, Leatrile/amigdalin. Now; it has been said that this is a scam, but I am not so sure. Because the guy who first discovered this cancer cure, lived to be 94 years old.
Now here's something else, when I worked as a baker and confectioner, we used Apricot Kernel paste as a substitute for Almond Paste, because it was cheaper and the products we made from it were just as tasty as those made from genuine Almond Paste. As far as I know the people who ate our Almond Tarts and Macaroons, suffered no ill effects.

Yours sincerely.

Holy cow. I was aware of the "nuts" in the stone fruit, but I didn't have any idea you could make ice cream or bake with them! Now the big question in my house is whether it would be safe for me to use them. My wife is severely allergic to all nuts, both tree nuts and peanuts. Like anaphalaxysis, epipen, go the ER allergic. Which sucks. But she can eat stone fruits including cherries by the bushel. So I wonder whether the allergen protein is in those "nuts" or not. That's gonna take some research.

Hm..hearing your story makes me wish I had a sister who sold fruit at a farmers market - my only siblign just sells numbers.

Anywho, the recipe is simple but so intriguing to me because I never knew anyone to use the pit of the apricot - truthfully I didn't even know that there was an almond like nut inside the pit.

So thanks for the knowledge!
